The Story of Calc Bowl 2012

Calc Bowl 2012 went off with the usual adrenaline rush on April 4 at Gateway High School in Aurora. There were 60 teams from all over the Denver metro area; 275 students from 12 high schools and one community college.

Thanks to support from Northrop Grumman Corporation, Aurora Public Schools, and many volunteers from Northrop Grumman, UC Denver, Aurora Public Schools, and Colorado School of Mines.

The Bowl consists of 350+ challenging calculus questions presented in quiz-show style to the students. For samples, please see the Calc Bowl General Info tab, Practice Problems. Questions are taken from or patterned after AP Calculus exams and in difficulty range from easy to stump-the-Prof.



Calc Bowl 2012 winners were:


1st place and 2012 Calculus Bowl Champions - Integreatest, Horizon High School, teacher: Donald Hamai (Adams 12 Five Star Schools)

2nd place - Peak to Peak 1, Peak to Peak Charter School, teacher: Nina Hankla (Boulder Valley Schools)

3rd place - Jesus y los Zorrilos, Aurora Central High School, teacher: Scott Frank (Aurora Public Schools)

Honorable Mention - Close Encounters of the Nerd Kind, Castle View High School, teacher: Tia Yaryan (Douglas County Schools)

Special Award - Best Team Costume - Careless Calculators, Standley Lake High School, teacher: Sheila Humphreys (Jeffco Public Schools)
