The Story of Calc Bowl 2016

A special note: Radon and the Related Raders are Calcbowl champs for the 2nd year in row!!!

Calc Bowl 2016 went off on April 15 at Gateway High School in Aurora. Until the final round it was not clear who the top teams would be. There were 45 teams competing from all over the Denver metro area and beyond, all the way from Pueblo to Wheatland, Wyoming; 185 students from 15 high schools.

Thanks to support from Northrop Grumman Corporation, Aurora Public Schools, and many volunteers from Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, UC Denver, and Aurora Public Schools. Thanks also to teachers and parents who supported their students in the Bowl!

The Bowl consists of 350+ challenging calculus questions presented in quiz-show style to the students. For samples, please see the Calc Bowl General Info tab, Practice Problems. Questions are taken from or patterned after AP Calculus exams and in difficulty range from easy to stump-the-Prof.


Calc Bowl 2016 winners were:


1st place and 2016 Calculus Bowl Champions - Radon and the Related Raiders, Boulder High School, teacher: Cheryl Speckl (Boulder Valley Schools)

2nd place - Declaration of Linear Independence, Legend High School, teacher: Cynthia Henderson (Douglas County Schools)

3rd place - Crystal Math, Boulder High School, teacher: Cheryl Speckl (Boulder Valley Schools)

Honorable Mention - Ladies Without Bounds, Horizon High School, teacher: Cheryl Olson (Adams 12 Five Star Schools)
